I am tired of reading about autistic and developmentally different children being abused and tortured.
I am tired of reading about autistic and other neurologically atypical kids being abused and tortured. How do we get this to stop?

UPDATE -- January 13th, 2009
The National Disability Rights Network has released a report on the use of restraints and seclusion and has called upon the 111th Congress to ban these practices under federal law. Hats off to them. In light of the historic changes ahead in DC, let's hope we can say yes we can.

My post on the CNN report. If I get my non-blogging chores done tonight before I run out of brain, I'll try to do a state-by-state link on anti-restraint parents' groups.
This is all in all an excellent blog; thank you. I do not have an autistic child, but a psychologically disturbed (mentally ill?) boy who is not a 31-year-old man in prison. I am somehow encouraged by the courageous strsuggles of others. I do want to ask you if you and/or other parents of autistic children have a reaction to mark haddon's book "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night." I have a deep dislike of the fictionalization without any assurance of good motives or good information, and am looking for responses to the book by knowledgeable people.
I agree. I believe part of the problem is a lack of education on autism. My son's school has no clue.
