Hearts Are Ungraded

Even though Sweet M's most recent drawings have not show her embedded in a community as she was last year, one of last week's shows her surrounded by hearts.

You've gotta love this girl, and apparently plenty of people do. Art may be graded, but it seems hearts are not.

I love this! And I noticed some pink "equal signs" in the design ... literary/mathematical!

actually I think there is something going on in the composition and the arrangements of colors and shapes.....

thats like my son - who is incredible at art - and it calms and soothes him, but he's very methodical....

BTW, I just came across your blog, I am having some major issues with autism discrimination in my son's school, you wouldn't happen to have any resources here in the city to help me nail the principle who has been turning away *and* "pushing out" ASD kids for the last 7 years here in the Bronx?

If so, please drop me a reply.

Siobhan, I don't have your email, so I can't respond privately, but in general I would suggest that you contact

Resources for Children with Special Needs, or

Parents for Inclusive Education through NY Lawyers for the Public Interest,

and/or GRASP, the Global and Regional Autism/Asperger's Partnership.

You probably need an attorney, and since education attorney's are expensive, probably best to start with referrals from these organizations.

If you want to email me about this, email me at mothersvox [at] gmail [dot] com.

That'd be "attorneys" for anyone who proofreads!

weird, I thought it would leave you my contact info as a poster of a comment (since I used a google/gmail account) - I will email you offlist, I am currently talking to someone who works in Chairman Miller's (Rep. D-CA) office - the congressman who sponsoired the Restraint and Seclusion bill. I don't know if anything will come of it, but maybe our story will help it get passed.

I have an attorney, but as you said, she is expensive, and I try and do most of my own legwork and research so as to keep her hours, and therefore, my costs, down. I am also an aspie, so I know exactly what he's going through, which makes me less likely to let this go like other parents in his school have - they just leave and find other schools.

Wonderful picture. I hope things continue to go well for you! I really enjoy this blog. When browsing to find other blogs similar to my own, Books on Autism for Parents, I came across yours and love it! Great job.
